IAC BOWLING: VANDERPOOL, CANFIELD BOTH ROLL 700 SERIES - WAVERLY BOYS, GIRLS SWEEP MARATHON (2019-01-09)

WAVERLY - The Waverly boys, led by 700 series from 8th-grader Zach Vanderpool and junior Derrick Canfield, and girls both recorded sweeps over short-handed Marathon here Wednesday afternoon in IAC bowling action at the Valley Bowling Center.

BOYS
Waverly 4, Marathon 0

Vanderpool banged out a 731 series, and Canfield had a 723 to help Waverly to a total-pinfall victory of 3,050 to 1,333 over Marathon, which had just four bowlers.

Vanderpool rolled games of 225, 280, and 226, Canfield shot games of 278, 245, and 200.

Eighth-grader Ashton Pritchard rolled a 563 series, including games of 203 and 217, for the Wolverines, while sophomore Richard Stevens had a 526, including a 218, freshman Cody Blackwell added a 466, and sophomore Matt Mauersberg tacked on a 443.

Matt Romanelli led Marathon with a 384 series.

GIRLS
Waverly 4, Marathon 0

Seventh-grader Rachel Houseknecht shot a 537 series to lead the Lady Wolverines to a 2,416 to 1,327 total-pinfall victory over Marathon, which only had four bowlers.

Junior Mackenzie Plouse had a 494 series in the win, while 8th-grader Victoria Houseknecht had a 477, senior Sarah Wood rolled a 458, senior Sarah Uhl added a 442, and senior Kari VanAllen tacked on a 345.

Juniors Morgan Lee and Megan Lee rolled 461 and 428, respectively, in reserve for the Lady Wolverines, while junior Sadie VanAllen had a 410 and senior Paige Pierce had a 400.

Waverly returns to action Thursday at Lansing.
