BINGHAMTON - Waverly played a strong second half, and made enough free throws down the stretch to pull out a 64-57 non-league win over Chenango Forks here Thursday night in junior varsity boys basketball action.
Joey Tomasso knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the first quarter, and Liam Traub added four points to fuel a 15-8 run in the first eight minutes.
Chenango Forks rallied, however, with a 19-12 run in the second quarter to tie the game at 27-27 heading into the halftime intermission.
Six different junior Wolverines put their names in the scoring column in the third quarter, led by Davis Croft, who had four points, and Liam Traub, who canned a 3-pointer, as Waverly edged ahead 43-40 heading into the final eight minutes.
Croft scored nine points in the fourth quarter, while Tomasso had seven points, and Brennan Traub added five points. The trio combined to make 9 of 18 free throws - all three making 3 of 6 - to seal the victory.
Croft led Waverly with 19 points, 10 rebounds and two steals, while Tomasso scored a season-high 17 points and had two steals, and Brennan Traub had 13 points six boards.
Liam Traub added seven points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot in the win, while Nick VanHouten chipped in with four points, Brady Blauvelt dished out five assists and grabbed three boards, and Thomas Hand had three rebounds.
Waverly, now 12-6, returns to action Saturday when it hosts Cortland.
