MORAVIA — Tioga jumped out to an early lead en route to an 8-0 rain-shortened win over Moravia here Friday afternoon in IAC Division 2 baseball action.
The Tigers scored four runs on three hits — a double by sophomore Derrick Gage and seniors Derrick Barto and John Worthing — in the top of the first inning. They also benefitted from an error and two walks.
Tioga added a run in the third inning on a squeeze bunt by Barto, then blew the game open with three more runs in the third inning.
Gage doubled and singled, scored one run, and had one RBI, and junior Mason Booser singled twice, scored one run, and drove in a run to pace Tioga’s eight-hit attack.
Worthing and Barto each singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, while junior Brady Worthing and sophomore Seth Franks each singled and scored one run, and senior Pierce Hendershot scored two runs, stole two bases, and drove in one run.
Gage earned the win on the mound for the Tigers, allowing two hits, while striking out eight and walking five in four innings of work.
Tioga, now 2-2, returns to action Saturday morning when it hosts Sayre at 10 a.m., then at 12:30 p.m. at Athens.
