ITHACA "” Tioga junior Sam Taylor and senior A.J. Middendorf both advanced to Saturday's second round of the Section IV Individual Medalists championship here at the Robert Trent Jones course at Cornell University.

Taylor shot a 79 Thursday and sits in sixth place, five shots off the pace of first-round leader Seth Conway of Horseheads. The top nine advance to States.

Horseheads' Tyler Thomas is in second after shooting 76, while Binghamton's Ryan Locke and Oneonta's Evan Sitts are tied for third after rounds of 77, and Vestal's Luke Barney is fifth following a 78.

Middendorf is tied for 19th after shooting a round of 86, which was the cut.

Second round action begins Saturday at 9 a.m.
