IAC JV SOFTBALL: WAVERLY PULLS OUT 13-10 SLUGFEST OVER NEWARK VALLEY (2019-05-17)

WAVERLY - Newark Valley scored five runs in the top of the first inning, but Waverly rallied to win a high-scoring, 13-10, affair here Wednesday in IAC junior varsity softball action.

Erin Linquist singled, scored one run, and had three RBI to pace Waverly's six-hit attack, while Emilee Little doubled and scored three runs, Megan Ward singled and scored three runs, Rachel Smith singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Kennedy Herriman singled and drove in two runs.

Michaela Lauper scored three runs and drove in three runs in the win, and Taylor Hall crossed the plate once.

Lauper earned the win, allowing five runs - four earned - on seven hits, while striking out eight and walking none in six innings of relief.

Trailing 5-1 after 1 1/2 innings, Waverly scored five runs to take a 6-5 lead. Newark Valley tied the game with a run in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Wolverines answered with RBI single by Smith and Linquist in a three-run rally in the home half for a 9-6 lead.

The Lady Cardinals scored twice in the top of the fourth to close the gap, but Waverly answered with four runs in the home half in a rally capped by Herriman's two-run single to make i 13-8.

Waverly, now 6-6, return to action Tuesday at Newark Valley.
