WAVERLY — Corning-Painted Post built a 7-0 lead through 3 1/2 innings, then blew the game open with a six-run rally in the fifth inning en route to a 13-6 win in the opening game of the pool play in the District 6 Minors Division baseball playoffs.
C-PP only had six hits, but took advantage of seven Waverly errors, and 13 wild pitches.
Collin Wheeler singled and scored two runs, and Rylan Yeakle singled and drove in a run to account for Waverly’s only two hits.
Griffen Walters scored two runs and drove in one run for Waverly, while Jack Pipher scored two runs. and Hayden Roskow drove in one run.
Walters started on the mound for Waverly, and gave up three earned runs on three hits, while striking out eight and walking three in 3 1 /3 innings.
Pipher closed out the game, allowing an unearned run on one hit, while striking out four and walking one in two innings.
Waverly returns to action Tuesday at Elmira.
