ATHENS — Athens scored 13 runs in the first two innings, and cruised to a 13-1 four-inning win over Sullivan County here Friday evening in the opening game of pool play in the District 15 Little League 11U baseball playoffs.
Matthias Welles gave Athens a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run triple, and he scored on an RBI double by Charan Venkataswamy.
Cylus Lantz and Kade Rowe stroked back-to-back RBI singles to extend the lead to 5-0.
Later in the inning, Cooper Robinson drove home a run with an RBI single, and Karson Sipley capped the rally with an RBI triple to make it 8-0.
Athens added five runs in the second — all with two outs. Nicholas Robbins delivered an RBI single in the rally.
Welles tripled, score one run, and had three RBI, and Robinson singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs to pace Athens at the plate, while Sipley tripled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Venkataswamy doubled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run.
Lantz and Rowe each singled, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, while Nicholas Robbins singled and drove in one run, Alex Arcesi scored a pair of runs, and Wyatt Clink, Abram Steinfelt, and Jacob Shores each scored one run.
Welles, Venkataswamy, and Rowe combined to pitch a two-hitter, and strike out nine.
