ATHENS — For the second time in the tournament, Waverly topped Athens 5-4 in walk-off fashion, and for the second time Brody Lambert delivered the game-winning hit — this time in the championship game of the Gilbert-Brown 8U Baseball Tournament.
Lambert gave Waverly the early lead with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, and Waverly used four walks in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Athens used six walks, and a three-RBI double by Shea Davidson to four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead.
Lambert drove in another run in the third inning with an RBI double to trim the Waverly deficit to 4-3.
In the fifth inning, Cooper Hugo belted an RBI double to tie the game at 4-4.
Athens left three runners in scoring position over the final three innings.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Axel Murray ripped a one-out double, and scored two pitches later on Lambert’s game-winning hit.
Lambert was 3-for-3 with a double, and three RBI to pace Waverly at the plate, while Brayden Bowman singled twice and scored two runs, and Hugo doubled and drove in a run.
Murray doubled and scored one run in the win, while Leland Stark singled, and Jax Myers and Peyton Lawson each scored one run.
Shea Davidson doubled, scored one run, and had three RBI to lead Athens at the plate, while Jacob Saxon singled and scored one run, and Tyler Pelchy, and Eli Wayman each scored one run.
