ATHENS — Athens rode a five-run second-inning rally to a 7-3 win over Susquehanna Area here Saturday afternoon in consolation bracket action in the District 15 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.
Susquehanna Area took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but Athens answered with five runs to take a 5-2 lead. The rally featured an RBI single by Eli Chapman and an RBI groundout by Nick Grazul.
Leading 5-3, Athens added a pair of insurance runs in the home half of the fifth. Matthew Driesbaugh drove home the first run of the inning with an RBI single.
Grazul doubled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Driesbaugh singled and knocked in a run, and Chapman singled, scored one run, and drove in one run to account for Athens’ three hits, while Troy Rosenbloom scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Carson Rowe, Riley Campbell, and Braden Reed each scored one run.
Rosenbloom started on the mound for Athens, allowing three runs — one earned — on three hits, while striking out six and walking two in 2 2/3 innings.
Grazul earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He fanned eight, while allowing two hits and walking one.
Athens returns to action Monday.
