WAVERLY — Corning-Painted Post scored nine runs in the last two innings to blow open a close game en route to an 11-1 win over Waverly here Sunday in pool play action in the District 6 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.
C-PP scored a run in the top of the first inning, but Waverly tied the game in the home half of the second inning. Lincoln Sharpsteen and Kadyn Whitney walked to open the frame, then moved up on a one-out passed ball. Sharpsteen scored moments later on a two-out wild pitch.
C-PP took the lead for good with a run in the top of third inning, then added three insurance runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead. They put the game out of reach with six runs in the fifth inning.
Andrew Larrabee double, while Kohen Hugo and Whitney each added a single to account Waverly’s three hits, and Sharpsteen scored the lone run of the game.
Waverly, now 2-3, closes out pool play at Hornell Tuesday.
