ELKLAND - A trio of Athens pitchers combined on a no-hitter here Sunday afternoon in a 10-0 win over Elkland in pool play action in the District 15 Little League 11U baseball playoffs.

Matthias Welles started for Athens, and struck out four in one scoreless inning, while Charan Venkataswamy fanned four and walked three in two innings of relief. Cooper Robinson struck out the side in a perfect inning of relief.

Cooper Robinson reached on a dropped third strike to lead off the bottom of the first inning, then moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Robinson stole third base, then scored on a steal of home.

Athens blew the game open with six runs in the second inning. James Friend started the rally with an RBI double, then Robinson, Karson Sipley, and Welles delivered consecutive RBI singles with one outs to give Athens a 6-0 lead. Cylus Lantz capped the scoring with an RBI double to extend the lead to 7-0.

Athens added three runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Robinson, a sacrifice fly by SIpley, and a steal of home by Welles to make it 10-0.

Athens, now 2-0 in pool play, returns to action Friday when it hosts Endless Mountains.
