YOUTH BASEBALL: NICHOLS-TIOGA TAKES SHOWDOWN WITH OWEGO AT OWEGO LITTLE LEAGUE 12U TOURNEY (16 PHOTOS) (2019-07-11)

Valley Sports Report
OWEGO - Garrett Godfrey struck out 15 batters, fashioning a two-hitter in the process, to lead Nichols-Tioga to a 2-1 victory over Owego (Beyer) in C Division bracket play at the Owego Little League 12U Tournament here Wednesday.

Owego would actually grab the early lead in the top of the first inning when Adam Llewellyn walked, advanced on pair of passed balls and eventually scored.

N-T, which stranded Brennan Sindoni at third in the first following a triple and James Luther at second after a base hit in the second, finally found its way around the bases in the fourth. Shea Bailey singled and scored and Eli Barnes walked and scored. Godfrey, Nick Slater and Zac Mumbulo all hit safely.

Nichols-Tioga had a chance to extend the lead in the fifth after Jack Bombard singled and Sindoni walked, but both players were stranded in scoring position.

In addition to 15 Ks, Godfrey allowed just two hits and four walks.

Bombard went 2-for-3 to lead N-T's nine-hit effort. Sindoni, Bailey, Godfrey, Luther, Slater, Mumbulo and Taliah Speer contributed one hit apiece.

Nichols-Tioga meets Union-Endicott (Ferraro) at 10:45 a.m. Saturday on Cheresnowsky Field. Owego takes on Ithaca (Walder) Friday at 7:45 p.m. on Beuter Field.
