SCHOLASTIC TRACK & FIELD: WAVERLY'S CHANDLER CLEARS CAREER-BEST HEIGHT TO WIN POLE VAULT AT SANFORD INVITE (2019-07-15)
Valley Sports ReportNEW YORK CITY "” Waverly senior Isaac Chandler turned in a career-best performance Saturday to win the men's pole vault event at the Adam Sanford Invitation at Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island.
Chandler's winning vault was 15-feet, 5-inches, easily topping Virginia's Daniel Reynolds, who was second at 14-feet, 7 1/2-inches, and Tompkins County's Dominic Mikula was third at 14-feet 7 1/2-inches.
Chandler was perfect in his first four heights, before miss his first attempt at 15-feet, 5-inches. He cleared the height on his second attempt.
Chandler near cleared 15-feet, 9-inches, but had to settle his winning height.
Chandler, who finished third at States in June, has his sights set on Eric Hughes' school-record of 15-feet, 3-inches during the upcoming school year.
