IAC BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: WRIGHT LEADS WAVERLY TO FOUR WINS IN FIVE-WAY MEET AT WATKINS GLEN (20 PHOTOS) (2019-09-11)

WATKINS GLEN "” Waverly had three runners finish in the top five, led by junior Collin Wright, on its way to four wins in a five-team meet here Tuesday afternoon in IAC boys cross country action.

The Wolverines tallied 33 placement points, while Watkins Glen was second with 56 points, Lansing had 69 points, Notre Dame had 83 points, and Groton amassed 123 points.

Watkins Glen standout Gabe Planty won the race in a time of 16:20.28 on the 2.8-mile course, while Wright was second in 16:37.24, sophomore Kaden Wheeler was fourth in 17:57.38, and sophomore Nate Ackley was fifth in 18:00.71.

Senior Brandon Bubniak finished ninth for the Wolverines in a time of 18:09.2, while junior Jayden Rose was 13th in 18:44.57, sophomore Liam Traub was 17th in 19:17.51, and sophomore Hunter Elston was 19th in 19:45.7.

Sophomore Gavin Schillmoeller finished 23rd in 20:45.07, while freshman Jerrel Sackett was 28th in 21:01.16, Matt Atanasoff was 31st in 21:49.41, sophomore Sam VanDyke was 33rd in 22:19.08, and Joe Fritzen was 47th in 28:25.23.

Waverly's Liam Wright led four finishers in the top 10 to lead the junior Wolverines to the team win in the co-ed junior high race.

Waverly had 30 placement points, while Lansing had 43, and Watkins Glen was incomplete.

Wright clocked in at 10:34.6 on the 1.5-mile course, while Jake VanHouten was fifth in 11:02.99, Peyton Fravel was sixth in 11:12.59, and Hayden Larson was 10th in 11:57.88.

Riley Piper finished 16th in a time of 13:03.5, and Ben Norton was 19th in 14:42.68.
