Valley Sports ReportSAYRE - Sayre sophomore Rozlyn Haney scored five times, including her 50th career goal, but it wasn't enough as Sullivan County jumped out to an early lead en route to a 10-6 win here Monday evening in non-league girls soccer action at the Lockhart Street Bowl.
"Congrats to Roz on her 50th," said Sayre coach Tracy Mennig. "She is quite a talent."
Kerrigan Wettlaufer scored a pair of goals - the second coming 45 seconds after a tally by Bethany Beinlich, to take a 3-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.
Haney scored her milestone 4:10 into the game, but Bethany Beinlich answered one minute later to give the Lady Griffiths a 4-1 lead.
Kassidy Beinlich scored about 3 1/2 minutes later to up the Sullivan County lead to 5-1.
"We need to focus on getting better starts to our games," said Mennig. "We can't keep playing catch up."
Haney scored her second goal in the 14th minute on a penalty kick, and senior Courtney Sindoni added a goal on another penalty kick six minutes later to draw Sayre within two goals, at 5-3, with 19:42 left in the first half.
Bethany Beinlich finished off her hat trick with 12:27 remaining in the first half, and Chloe Burke scored the first of her four goals two minutes later to give the Lady Griffiths a 7-3 lead, which it carried into the halftime intermission.
Haney and Burke alternated goals in the second half - scoring three apiece - to provide the final margin.
"We had spurts of where we connected, but couldn't maintain it," said Mennig.
Sullivan County had a 22-8 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 12-0 edge in corner kicks.
Sayre keeper Adrianna Barnhart recorded 10 saves.
Sayre, now 1-5, hosts Athens Wednesday.
