TOWANDA "” Athens scored four times in the first 3 1/2 minutes of the game, and cruised to a 16-0 rout of Towanda here Tuesday night in NTL boys soccer action at the Endless Mountains Sports Complex.

The Wildcats fired off 52 shots-on-goal in the offensive onslaught that featured hat tricks by seniors Aaron Lane and senior goalkeeper Joel Maslin, two goals and three assists by senior Luke Arnold, and three assists by senior Alex Rowe.

Lane, off a feed from Arnold, scored 40 seconds into the game to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, then senior David Scheftic scored off a corner kick from Rowe.

Three minutes into the game, Arnold scored off a feed fro Scheftic to make it 3-0, and 31 seconds later Arnold scored off an assist from senior Jesse Sumner to give Athens a four-goal lead.

Lane scored off a feed from Rowe to make it 5-0, then freshman Jared Ammerman scored his first two varsity goals to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead at the half.

Sumner scored a pair of goals, sandwiched around a goal by Lane to give Athens a 10-0 lead 10 minutes into the second half. Arnold was credited with assists on the first two goals, and Rowe tallied an assist on the final goal.

Maslin came out of net for the Wildcats, and quickly netted a hat trick - the first assisted by Ammerman, and the next two by senior Jake Corino - to extend the lead to 13-0.

Sophomore Nate Quinn registered the Wildcats' next tally, and sophomore Ryan Thompson capped the scoring with a pair of goals.

Athens, now 5-1, hosts Troy Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
