IAC BOYS SOCCER: NOTRE DAME EDGES WAVERLY, 2-1, WITH LATE GOAL (2019-09-17)
Valley Sports ReportSOUTHPORT, N.Y. - Tyler Simpson scored with 10 minutes remaining in the game to lift Notre Dame to a 2-1 win over Waverly here Tuesday night in IAC South Large School boys soccer action.
"It was a great soccer game tonight, hard-fought and well-played by both teams," said Waverly coach Eric Ryck. "The boys continue to keep getting better, and I am very pleased with their progress.
"Everyone is getting more comfortable on the ball, and the decision-making is getting so much better," he added.
Patrick Finnerty scored on a penalty kick 14 minutes into the game, and Notre Dame maintained a 1-0 lead until sophomore Brennan Traub's first career goal in the 61st minute tied the game at 1-1.
"Brennan Traub's goal is going to add to the confidence that is building on this team," said Ryck.
Notre Dame had an 18-5 advantage in shots-on-goal, while Waverly had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Cameron McIsaac recorded 16 saves in net for the Wolverines.
Waverly, now 0-4, hosts SVEC Thursday.
