IAC GIRLS SWIMMING: WATKINS GLEN KNOCKS OFF WAVERLY, 94-73 (2019-09-17)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY - Watkins Glen won eight of the first 10 events in a 94-73 win over Waverly here Tuesday afternoon in IAC girls swimming action.

Senior Maggie Whitley won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.52 seconds for the Lady Wolverines, and Sophia DeSisti was third in 29.13 seconds.

Josie VanDyke won the 1-meter diving competition with 124.65 points.

Watkins Glen also swam the final two events, but swam both in exhibition.

Sophomore Delaney Vascoe recorded a win in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:24.79.  She also finished third in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:40.92.

The Waverly foursome of DeSisti, senior Mara Callear, Luci Burnett, and sophomore Mackenzie Nichols recorded a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:46.29.

Callear finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:37.55.

Sophomore Willow Sharpsteen finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:08.87, and Nichols was third in 1:20.23. Sharpsteen also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:25.12

Whitley finished third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:02.01, and Nichols finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:16.34.

Waverly, now 2-1, returns to action Tuesday at Southern Cayuga.
