TIOGA CENTER "” Newark Valley scored two goals early in the second half to pull away for a 5-1 win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in Section IV, Division III field hockey action.

Emma Morgan scored with 5:27 remaining in the first half to give Newark Valley a 1-0 lead, which it would carry into the halftime intermission.

Morgan scored again 2 1/2 minutes into the second half, then Chloe Yetter scored three minutes later to make it 3-0.

Senior Olivia Ayres put Tioga on the board with 19:50 remaining in the contest to trim the deficit to 3-1, but Newark Valley's Taylor Benjamin scored two goals 54 seconds apart to make it 5-1 with 10:53 left in the game.

Newark Valley had a 30-4 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 13-1 edge in penalty corners.

Senior Kim Tarbox recorded 20 saves in the cage for the Lady Tigers, while Gavin Blee had two for Newark Valley.

Tioga, now 1-6, returns to action Friday at Moravia.
