Valley Sport ReportATHENS "” Senior defender David Scheftic has a knack for using his head, and he did it again here Wednesday evening, connecting on a header off a corner kick for the game's only goal to lift Athens to a 1-0 win over Section IV power Trumansburg at Alumni Stadium.
"I thought we played really, well but lacked a nose for the goal tonight," said Athens coach Jake Lezak. "Our defense and passing games were great tonight.
"It is nice to see our boys pull through against a tough team in a close game," added Lezak.
Scheftic's goal - his third of the season - came off a corner kick from senior Alex Rowe in the 13th minute of the game.
Athens controlled play throughout the game, outshooting Trumansburg 16-3. The Wildcats also had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Richard Prosser recorded 15 saves in net for Trumansburg, while Joel Maslin recorded three saves for the Wildcats.
Athens, now 6-1, hosts Corning Saturday afternoon. Game time is 3 p.m.
