ATHENS "” Athens scored the game's first goal late in the first half, then added three insurance goals in the second half in a 4-1 non-league win over Corning here Saturday afternoon in non-league boys soccer action.

Senior Luke Arnold slid a long-distance pass between a pair of defenders, and senior Aaron Lane ended up with a 1-on-1 with the Hawk keeper, pushing a shot past him to make it 1-0 with 13:24 remaining in the first half.

Arnold made it 2-0 with a penalty kick about seven minutes after the intermission.

Junior Asher Eills, off a feed from senior David Scheftic, scored his first career goal with 21:55 remaining in the contest to make it 3-0.

Senior Jesse Sumner capped the scoring, when he collected a rebound and punched it into the back of the net with 13:10 left in the game.

Athens outshot Corning 16-10. Both teams had three corner kicks.

Senior Joel Maslin recorded seven saves in net for the Wildcats, who have won five gams in a row "” all via shutout.

Athens, now 7-1, host Troy Monday.
