IAC GIRLS SWIMMING: BENJAMIN LEADS WAVERLY TO 62-24 WIN OVER WHITNEY POINT (19 PHOTOS) (2019-10-03)
Valley Sports ReportWHITNEY POINT "” Sophomore Lourden Benjamin was a four-time winner, and sophomore Willow Sharpsteen and freshman Sophia Desisti were triple-winners to lead Waverly to a 62-24 win over Whitney Point here Thursday afternoon in IAC girls swimming action.
The Lady Wolverines, now 4-3 on the season, won 9 of 10 events, and also won the 11th event, but swam it in exhibition.
Benjamin, Desisti, Sharpsteen and sophomore Delaney Vascoe teamed to win the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:56.79.
Benjamin won the 50-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 29.45 seconds, and senior Luci Burnett was third in 35.64. Benjamin also won the 100-yard breaststroke in a personal-best time of 1:24.81, and Desisti was second in a personal-best 1:33.34.
Sharpsteen won the 500-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 6:21.37, and junior Maggie Whitley was second in a personal-best 6:36.1.
Desisti won the 100-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 1:05.0, and Vascoe was second in 1:05.6.
Benjamin, Sharpsteen and Desisti teamed with junior Mara Callear to win the 200-yard free relay in a time of 1:59.43.
Callear won the 200-yard IM in a personal-best time of 2:54.47, and sophomore Nicole Bunke was third in aa personal-best time of 3:21.22.
Vascoe won the 100-yard backstroke in a personal-best time of 1:14.35, and sophomore Mackenzie Nichols was second in a personal-best 1:17.31
Nichols won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:19.89.
In exhibition, Whitley, Nichols, Vascoe and Callear won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:43.65
Junior Rachel Shambo finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 2:58.45, and junior Alyssa Sindoni finished third in a personal-best time of 3:09.24. Freshman Josie VanDyke also posted a personal-best time in the event.
Waverly returns to action Tuesday when it hosts O-M.
