ATHENS — Athens outlasted Sayre in four hard-fought sets for its fifth consecutive win here Monday night in NTL volleyball action.

The Lady Wildcats won the first set 25-19, but the Lady Redskins bounced back to even the match with a 25-23 win in the second set. Athens closed out the match with wins of 25-19 and 25-21.

“Grayce (Witherow) had some great serves tonight,” said Athens coach Heather Hanson. “And, Taylor Walker really stepped up with some big hits on the right side.

“We also received great support tonight, and the student section was awesome,” added Hanson.

Junior Grayce Witherow led Athens with 18 points, including a pair of aces, and five digs, while senior Cassidy Stackpole had 12 points, including three aces, four kills, and five digs, and senior Leah Liechty registered eight kills, five blocks, three points, and two digs.

Junior Kylie Jayne recorded 12 kills and one block in the win, while junior Taylor Field had nine points, two blocks, and 16 digs, junior Kayleigh Miller had seven points, 28 setter assists, and two digs, and sophomore Taylor Walker had four kills and two digs.

Senior Haley Barry had six points, three kills, and 11 digs for the Lady Wildcats, while junior Audrey Hatch added two kills, and junior Gia Perry chipped in with two digs.

Senior Lexi Post led Sayre with 17 points and five figs, while senior Julia Boyle had eight points and eight assists, and junior Gabbi Randall registered four kills and three blocks.

Senior Madeline Wilson recorded four kills for the Lady Redskins, while senior Emily Brion had nine digs, and seniors Hannah Garrity and Emily Sutryk each had five digs.

Athens, now 9-3, returns to action Thursday when it hosts powerhouse North Penn-Liberty, while Sayre (3-9) travels to Canton.
