Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY "” The Athens girls travel to Troy with designs on defending their NTL soccer title. A win will give the Lady Wildcats a 1 1/2-game lead with two league games to play.

Also in action, Waverly volleyball hosts Newark Valley in a key divisional match-up, and the Waverly and Sayre girls are both at home on the soccer pitch.

GIRLS SOCCER
Athens (11-1-2) at Troy (10-2-2), 4 p.m.:
The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 1-0 double-overtime win over Vestal, while the Lady Trojans edged Wellsboro, 1-0.

Athens has not lost since its second game of the season, a 6-1 decision against Montoursville at its season-opening tournament. Likewise, Troy has not lost since losses to Lewisburg and Hughesville at a season-opening tourney.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in the league opener at Alumni Stadium on Sept. 3. Athens' other tie was at Cicero-North Syracuse, while Troy's other tie was a 0-0 deadlock against Towanda.

SVEC (6-6) at Waverly (11-1), 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Wolverines clinched the IAS South Large School Division title Monday with a 6-1 win over Newark Valley, while the Lady Eagles are coming off a 2-0 loss to Newark Valley Friday.

In their first meeting, Waverly blitzed SVEC in an 8-1 decision.

Tioga (4-8) at Watkins Glen (1-11), 4:30 p.m.:
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 9-0 loss to Odessa-Montour Monday night, while the Lady Senecas blanked Newfield, 3-0, for their first win of the season.

The Lady Tigers can qualify for the Section IV playoffs with wins today, and Friday at home against NEB.

In their first meeting, Tioga topped Watkins Glen, 5-3.

Wyalusing (6-8) at Sayre (1-12), 5:30 p.m.:
The Lady Redskins are coming off a wild 8-7 loss at Williamson Monday, while the Lady Rams bested Elk Lake, 4-1, Friday.

VOLLEYBALL
Newark Valley (9-3 overall, 8-3 IAC) at Waverly (8-3, 8-3 IAC), 5 p.m. JV start:
The Lady Wolverines are coming off a sweep of S-VE Monday - its third straight win, while the Lady Cardinals dropped a 3-1 decision to Edison Friday.

Waverly and Newark Valley are tied the top spot in the division with Edison (7-5) just  1 1/2-game back with four league matches to play.

In their first meeting, Newark Valley swept Waverly by scores of 25-18, 25-11, and 25-12.
