SAYRE "” Olivia Spencer and Hailey Jayne combined to score eight goals in an 8-4 win over short-handed Sayre here Wednesday afternoon in NTL girls soccer action at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

Coach Tracy Mennig's team was playing down a player for the third straight game.

"The girls played with all heart tonight to the very end," said Mennig. "We started with 10 and finished strong with eight.

"This is the best effort I have seen," she noted. Sara (Ciavardini) played very well in the back against some good speed. Abby (Moliski) had her best game as well for the full 80 minutes.

"Roz (Haney) another great game and finished some difficult shots," noted Mennig. "They didn't give up and I know. they were hurting.

"Three games in a row playing down is hard," she added. "I am very proud of all of them and I know they felt good coming off the field at the end."

Spencer scored four minutes into the game to give the Lady Rams a 1-0 lead. Later in the half, Jayne scored a pair of goals in a 53-second span to up the lead to 3-0 with 8:18 left in the first half.

Courtney Sindoni put Sayre on the board with 56 seconds remaining in the first half, and Wyalusing led 3-1 at the half.

Sophomore Roz Haney scored 8 1/2 minutes into the second half to trim the deficit to 3-2, but Spencer scored three goals in a row to make it 6-2 with 14:10 left in the contest.

Senior Abby Moliski and Haney scored goals in a 2 1/2 minute span to trim the Wyalusing lead to 6-4 with 11:31 remaining in the game.

After Spencer's fifth goal, Jayne completed her hat trick on a penalty kick with 3:14 left in the game to complete the scoring.

Wyalusing outshot Sayre 23-8, and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Kylie Thompson recorded eight saves in net for the Lady Redskins.

Sayre, now 1-13, returns to action Monday at Wyalusing.
