IAC GIRLS SWIMMING: BENJAMIN LEADS WAVERLY'S EFFORTS AT LEAGUE MEET (15 PHOTOS) (2019-10-27)

WATKINS GLEN - Sophomore Lourden Benjamin had four top-four finishes, and sophomore Willow Sharpsteen finished in the top four three times to lead Waverly's efforts here Saturday at the IAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

The Lady Wolverines finished fifth in the team standings with 236 points, well off the pace of Watkins Glen, which tallied 354 points. Dryden was second with 306 points, while Southern Cayuga was third with 296, and Lansing was fourth 253 points.

Benjamin and freshman Josie VanDyke had the best finishes of the day for Waverly.

Benjamin finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:09.03, and sophomore Mackenzie Nichols was 13th in 1:16.64.

VanDyke finished third in the 1-meter diving competition with 246.0 points, which puts her 8th all-time in the Waverly top 25.

Benjamin finished fourth in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:29.57, while sophomore Delaney Vascoe was ninth in 2:39.81, and Sharpsteen was 10th in 2:40.39.
 
Benjamin, Vascoe, and Sharpsteen teamed with junior Maggie Whitley to finish fourth in the 200-yard medley really in a time of 2:07.94.

Benjamin, Sharpsteen, Whitley, and freshman Sophia Desisti teamed to finish fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:54.69.

Sharpsteen finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:09.18, and sophomore Mackenzie Nichols was 11th in 1:19.38.

Whitley finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.6 seconds, and junior Nicole Bunke was 16th in 33.8 seconds. Whitley finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:02.2,

Vascoe finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in at time of 1:24.67, and Desisti was 12th in 1:33.63

Desisti finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:19.03, and senior Mara Callear was 10th in 2:26.29.

Callear finished seventh in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:33.5, and senior Luci Burnett was 15th in 7:16.09.

Vascoe, Desisti, Callear and Nichols teamed to finish seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:30.96.

Waverly returns to action Nov. 6 at the Section IV, Class B preliminaries at Owego,
