HEPBURNVILLE — Two-time District 4 champ Athens opens the PIAA, Class AAA playoffs Tuesday night against District 2 runner-up Berwick here at the Balls Mills Soccer Complex.

The Lady Wildcats, now 15-2-2, are coming off a 1-0 win over Shikellamy in the D-4 title game last Tuesday, while the Lady Bulldogs (16-4) dropped a 1-0 decision Saturday to Dallas, which has won three D-2 titles in a row.

Berwick, which was the fifth seed in the District 2 playoffs, will be making its first appearance in the state playoffs since 2013.

Last year, Athens lost to Scranton Prep, 1-0, in the opening round of the state playoffs.

Game time is 6 p.m.

NOTE: Berwick lost its top scorer Kayla Hernandez to an ankle injury in the 18th minute of the District 2 title game, and she never returned.

VOLLEYBALL
Section IV Playoffs
Class D Quarterfinals
Deposit-Hancock (12-5) at Tioga (12-5), 6 p.m.: The winner advances to Class D semi-final pool play at the highest remaining seed, most likely top-seed Candor, which is ranked third in the state and is 19-0.

Class C Quarterfinals
Waverly (10-6) at Lansing (11-3), 6 p.m.: The winner advances to Class C pool play at Windsor, which received a bye into the semifinals. Windsor is 15-1 and ranked second in the state.
