COLLEGE FOOTBALL: TIOGA GRAD JOHNSON SEES ACTION ON BOTH SIDES OF BALL AS MANSFIELD WRAPS UP HISTORIC SEASON (2019-11-05)

MANSFIELD "” Tioga grad Max Johnson, a sophomore on the Mansfield University sprint football team, saw action on both sides of football in the final three games of the season as the Mounties wrapped up their best campaign since turning to sprint football in 2008 with a 5-2 record.

Johnson, who was exclusively a linebacker early in the season, has played fullback in each of the last three games.

On Oct. 18, Johnson had three carries for 15 yards, and also had one catch in a 44-13 win over Cornell. Johnson also had one tackle and 1/2-QB sack in the win.

On Oct. 25, Johnson had one carry for 5 yards. He had two solo tackles, and a tackle-for-loss, which resulted in a loss of 19 yards, as well as a forced fumble on defense. Mansfield improved to 5-1 with a 28-6 home win over Post University.

On Friday, in a season-ending 52-7 loss to Army, Johnson matched a season-high with four tackles, including two solo stops, and also had a pass break-up. He also had one carry for minus-1 yard.

On the season, Johnson had 20 tackles, including 14 solo stops, 6.5 tackles-for-loss resulting in negative-45 yards, as well as 2.5 QB sacks, one forced fumble and one pass break-up.

Offensively, Johnson had five carries for 19 yards, and one reception for minus-2 yards.
