NEWARK VALLEY "” Waverly bounced back from a 25-point season-opening loss to U-E Tuesday with a big divisional win over Newark Valley Tuesday night in IAC junior varsity basketball action.

Waverly 67, Newark Valley 28
Waverly jumped out to a big lead early and cruised to a 67-28 win over Newark Valley Friday nigh.

Brady Blauvelt pumped in 10 points in the first quarter, and Nalen Carling added eight as the junior Wolverines raced out to a 24-12 lead in the first eight minutes.

Davis Croft scored 10 points in the second quarter, and Carling added six in a 22-10 run that extend the Waverly lead to 46-22 at the halftime intermission.

Isaiah Bretz scored with points in the second half for the Wolverines as they continued to increase their lead.

Carling led Waverly with a monster double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds, and also had six steals, while Davis Croft had 14 points and six rebounds, and Blauvelt had 10 points and five rebounds.

Bretz had eight points and three rebounds in the win, while Liam Traub had six points and six rebounds. Thomas Hand added four points, four steals, and three rebounds, and Jay Pipher chipped in with four points, three assists, and three steals.

Union-Endicott 69, Waverly 44

Union-Endicott took control in the second quarter, and blew the game open in the second half en route to a 69-44 win over Waverly Tuesday evening.

Davis Croft scored seven points in the first quarter, and Brennan Traub knocked down a 3-pointer, but U-E led 13-10 after the first eight minutes.

U-E used a 22-10 run in the second quarter to take a 35-20 lead into the halftime intermission.

U-E outscored Waverly 15-10 in the third quarter, and led 50-30 heading into the final eight minutes.

Croft led Waverly with 22 points and eight rebounds, while Jay Pipher and Brennan Traub chipped in with five points apiece, and Nalen Carling hauled down six rebounds.

Waverly returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Notre Dame.
