NTL BASKETBALL: SAYRE HOLDS OFF TOWANDA, 54-51 (2019-12-11)

TOWANDA "” Sayre took a nine-point lead into halftime, thanks in large part to eight 3-pointers, and held on for a 54-51 win over Towanda here Wednesday night in NTL boys basketball action.

Junior Zach Moore drained a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter, and freshman Lucas Horton added one from long distance to help the Redskins to a 12-7 lead after the first eight minutes.

Moore canned two more 3-pointers, and sophomore Dom Fabbri and junior Matt Lane each knocked down one from behind the arc as Sayre stretched its lead to 28-19 at the half.

Lane and Fabbri each connected on a 3-pointer in the third quarter, but the Black Knights trimmed the deficit to six points, at 38-35, entering the final eight minutes.

Senior Corbin Brown scored eight points in the fourth quarter, and Lucas Horton added five points, including a 3-pointer, to help the Redskins secure the win, despite making just 3 of 10 free-throw attempts in the stanza.

Moore led Sayre with 15 points, while Brown scored 12 points, Lucas Horton had eight points, Fabbri had seven points, Lane added six, and Brayden Horton chipped in with five points.

Tanner Kunkle led Towanda with 17 points, while Kolby Hoffman added 14 points, and Trent Kithcart chipped in with 10.

Sayre, now 3-0, plays its home-opener Friday against North Penn-Mansfield.
