TIOGA JUNCTION, Pa. "” A short-hand Sayre team, wth just seven wrestlers in action, posted a 1-4 record at "The Battle on the Border" here Friday night.

Sophomore Jake Bennett was 5-0 on the day, all coming via pin falls, while sophomore Nik Polzella was 4-1, and sophomore Cam McCutcheon and freshman Layla Bennett were both 3-2.

Acting Sayre coach Jim Howey was pleased with the team's performance.

"These kids took a huge step today in preparation for their postseason aspirations.

"Jake Bennett is a leader on this team, and he started to embrace that role today," said Howey. "He had to push through some adversity today, and he did a good job of doing so.

"In our final dual, he chose to move up a weight, instead of taking a forfeit," noted Howey. "That was nice to see.

"Nik Polzella found a new level of self-discipline today," said Howey. "He did an excellent job of improving and leading.

"Cam McCutcheon started to believe in himself and his teammates today," he continued. "He has a lot of fight in him.

"And Layla Bennett picked up a pair of forfeits, but won her last match," added Howey. "She was very impressive. I think it was a huge boost for her confidence."

Addison 66, Sayre 12
Addison won the first four contested weight classes, and garnered three forfeits to take a 41-o lead en route to a 66-12 win over Troy in the opening match of the Battle on the Border.

Sayre's lone win on the mat was Jake Bennett's pin of Dakota Herrington at 2:15 in the 160-pound bout.

Polzella picked up a forfeit at 285 pounds for the Redskins' only other points in the match.

Sayre 36, Jasper-Troupsburg 6

The Redskins logged three falls, and picked p three forfeits in a 36-6 win over Jasper-Troupsburg.

After Layla Bennett, and sophomore Cam McCutcheon were issued forfeits at 113 and 129 pounds, respectively, Junior Jake Burgess registered a fall of Brandon Robinson in 3:12 at 132 pounds to give the Redskins an 18-0 loss.

J-T scored its only points of the match with a fall at 138 pounds, but Jake Bennett put the Redskins back in the win column with a pin of Lance Baumgardner in 3:01 at 160 pounds.

A forfeit to freshman Glenn Romberger at 182 pounds gave Sayre a 30-6 lead, and Polzella's pin o Loren Braun in 3:20 at 285 provided the final margin.

Alfred-Almond 54, Sayre 30
Sayre won four of the six contested weight classes, but couldn't overcome seven forfeits in a 54-30 loss to Alfred-Almond in its third match of the day.

After receiving a forfeit at 126 pounds to start the match, Alfred-Almond won its only two matches on the mat  - at 132 and 138, and led, after another Sayre forfeit at 145 pounds, 24-0.

Jake Bennett put Sayre on the scoreboard with a pin of Scott Mills in 5:10 at 152 pounds, but the Redskins issued forfeits at 160 and 172 to make it 36-6.

Freshman Glen Romberger registered a fall of Morgan Davidson at 1:13 in the 182-pound bout, but Sayre gave up two more forfeits at 195 and 220.

At 285 pounds, Polzella won by fall in 13 seconds to light up the scoreboard for the Redskins again.

After trading forfeits at 106 and 113, McCutcheon registered a first-period fall to finish off the scoring for the Redskins.

Bolivar-Richburg 66, Sayre 12
The Redskins scored a pair of falls for its only wins, while Bolivar-Richburg notched five pins and received six forfeits in a 66-12 win.

Burgess scored a fall in 36 seconds at 138 pounds for Sayre's first win of the match, which made it 6-6.

Jake Bennett tied the bout at 12-12 with a pin of Wayne Kantner in 3:05 at 152 pounds.

B-R racked up four pins and picked up five forfeits to finish off the match.

Campbell-Savona 36, Sayre 22
Layla Bennett and Jake Bennett earned Sayre's only wins on the mat in a 36-22 loss to Campbell-Savona in the final match of the day.

Layla Bennett decked Greg Hargrove in 4:13 in their 113-pound bout, and Jake Bennett flattened Jay Thomas in 44 seconds at 160 pounds.

Polzella and McCutcheon picked up forfeits for the Redskins.
