ATHENS "” Athens led a 13-point lead after three quarters slip through their fingers here Monday night in a 33-32 loss to Thomas A. Edison in NTL junior varsity girls basketball action.

Natalie Wood scored eight points in the first quarter, and Olivia Bartlow added four to help Athens to a 13-7 lead after the first eight minutes.

The junior Lady Wildcats led 19-13 at the half, then put together another 13-6 spurt in the third quarter, thanks in large part to seven points by Olivia Bartlow, to take a 32-19 lead into the final eight minutes.

Edison put the defensive clamps on Athens in the fourth quarter and outscored them 14-0 to pull out the win.

Wood led Athens with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots,and Olivia Bartlow had 11 points, four rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Karlee Bartlow added five points and three rebounds in the win, while Emma Bronson contributed six assists, five steals, and three blocked shots, and Lillian SItzer chipped in with six rebounds, three steals, and one blocked shot.

Harper Hoffman and Autumn Vielo led Edison with 11 points apiece. Hoffman scored seven points in the decisive fourth-quarter run, and Vielo added four.

Athens returns to action Wednesday at Troy.
