NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: FIRST-PLACE NP-LIBERTY RALLIES PAST SAYRE, 52-49 (19 PHOTOS) (2020-01-21)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE - First-place North Penn-Liberty used a big third quarter to rally for a 52-49 win over Sayre here Tuesday night in NTL Small School boys basketball action.

"Credit to (North Penn-) Liberty, they are a very good basketball team and have played in and won these types of basketball games," said Sayre coach Devin Shaw. "They made a few more plays down the stretch and put themselves in a position to win the game."

Junior Zach Moore knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the first quarter, and junior Connor Young added four points, leading Sayre to a 13-6 lead after the first eight minutes.

Moore added seven more points in the second quarter, and senior Corbin Brown scored five points as Sayre maintained its lead, at 27-20, at the half.

NP-L's Koleton Roupp and Brandon Thompson scored six points apiece in the third quarter to fuel a 21-10 run that gave the Mountaineers a 41-37 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

"We came out a little flat in the second half," said Shaw.

"I'm really disappointed in myself for the way I coached in the second half," he noted. "I let it get too sloppy in the third quarter, and I think was a big difference-maker in the game. I need to do a better job.

"Despite the tough third quarter, our team played their tails off, and battled all the way down to the wire," added Shaw.

Sophomore Dom Fabbri canned a 3-pointer and scored five points in the fourth quarter, and Young added four points, but NP-L's Noah Spencer scored seven points in the final stanza to help preserve the win.

Moore pumped in 20 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Redskins, while Young scored 10 points, and Fabbri and Brown each added seven points.

Spencer led NP-L, now 13-1, with 16 points, while Thompson scored 10 points, and Colton Litzelman added eight.

Sayre, now 6-7, returns to action Thursday at NEB.
