NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS THUMPS TROY, 54-23 (2020-01-22)

TROY "” Athens took the lead early, and pulled away on its way to a 54-23 win over Troy here Wednesday night in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action at the Troy Commons Building.

Senior Haley Barry scored six points in the first quarter, and junior Kayleigh Miller added four points as Athens built a 14-6 lead after the first eight minutes.

Junior Megan Collins knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter, while Miller hit a 3-pointer and scored five points, and Barry added four points in a 17-6 run that gave the Lady Wildcats a 31-12 at the halftime intermission.

Miller and Barry scored six points apiece to fuel a 12-5 spurt that pushed the Athens lead to 43-17 entering the final eight minutes.

Barry led Athens with 20 points, while Miller had 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals, and senior Avery Priester contributed 10 assists and seven steals.

Macik added six points and eight rebounds in the win, while Collins scored six points, junior Rachel Stephens grabbed seven boards, junior Kassidy Peterson had four boards, and senior Hannah Forbes chipped in with three boards.

Hannah Zimmerman led Troy with eight points, and Rachel Kinsley added seven.

Athens, now 12-2, travels to Wellsboro Friday night.
