WAVERLY "” Waverly rode a red-hot first quarter to a 68-38 win over Whitney Point here Thursday evening in IAC Large School junior varsity boys basketball action.

Brennan Traub knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and scored 10 points in the first quarter, while Nalen Carling scored six points, David Croft canned a 3-pointer and scored five points, and Liam Traub added a 3-pointer in a 30-9 blitz in the opening eight minutes.

Waverly maintained its lead in the second quarter, and took a 41-20 advantage into the halftime intermission.

Carling canned a 3-pointer and scored six points in the third quarter, while Brennan Traub knocked down another 3-pointer, and Croft added an old-fashioned three-point play in a 17-11 spurt that pushed the Waverly lead to 58-31 heading into the final eight minutes.

Carling led four Waverly scorers in double-figures with 14 points, and had 1 rebounds and three steals, while Brennan Traub scored 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and Liam Traub had 10 points, four assists, and three steals.

Croft had 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals in the win, while Brady Blauvelt added eight points, three rebounds, and three steals, Isaiah Bretz chipped in with five points, Kayleb Bechy grabbed four rebounds, and Thomas Hand dished out three assists.

Hunter Maslin led Whitney Point with 17 points.

Waverly, now 11-1, returns to action Saturday at Watkins Glen.
