HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY'S WOODRING NAMED TO BCANY ALL-SECTION IV TEAM (2020-04-03)

Valley Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY - Waverly senior Scott Woodring made a remarkable comeback following a season-ending injury his junior year. And the 6-foot-8 standout picked up another honor by being named to the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Section IV boys first-team.

Woodring missed about two-thirds of his junior season, but bounced back to dominate the hardwoods this season. He averaged a double-double with 26.3 points and 14.8 rebounds per game. He also averaged 2.2 blocks and 1.4 steals per contest, and scored a school-record 552 points this season while shooting 56.9 percent from the field.

He finished his high school career with 1,083 points, 682 rebounds, and a school-record 39 double-doubles in 51 career games.

Woodring was named the IAC South Large School MVP, the All-Tioga County boys basketball "Player of the Winter," Valley Sports Report boys basketball "Player of the Year," and was also an All-Tioga County top 10 boys "Athlete of the Winter."

One other Tioga County player was named to the BCANY first-team, Owego's Brendan Evans.

The senior point guard was a team leader in a variety of ways - getting the Indians into their offenses, breaking the press and acting as the coach on the floor.

Evans averaged 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game. An All-Tioga County first-team all-star, he knocked down 41 3-point field goals with 37-percent accuracy and also connected on 55 percent of his attempts from two-point range.
