Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY "” Due to New York State regulations regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, the Waverly Boys Basketball Summer League, and the annual Waverly basketball camps this summer have been canceled.
"Hopefully, some of the restrictions will be lifted, and we can host a camp later in the summer, or some type of basketball clinics with smaller numbers," said Waverly boys basketball coach Lou Judson.
According to a memo from NYSPHAA Executive Director Robert Zayas, NYSPHAA was informed by the Governor's office on June 25 that "schools are able to allow individuals or groups access to their fields and grounds. However, schools are still prohibited from any indoor activities, and in-person instruction, and any organized sports recreational activities that are hosted / operated.
"I realize this information is frustrating for many schools, coaches and student-athletes who planned to start on-campus conditioning workouts upon entering Phase 4," said Zayas. "However, as you know, these are challenging times for everyone, and decisions are made to protect and prevent future outbreaks.
"We will continue to provide updates as NYSPHAA works with state officials to ensure interscholastic opportunities for students on school campuses will resume as soon as practical," he added.
