WAVERLY - The first-place Williams Ford / NASCO Cubs and the New Image / Tom's Hardware Pirates earned wins here Thursday evening in Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball action.

The Cubs took advantage of several errors by the Tomasso's Restaurant & Golf Course / Williams Toyota Blue Jays to post a 10-5 win in the opening game of the doubleheader. In the nightcap, a pair of Pirate pitchers combined on a no-hitter in a 14-1 romp over the Naglee Moving & Storage Angels.

Cubs 10, Blue Jays 5
The Cubs scored five runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead, then scored five more runs in the fourth inning to pull away for a 10-5 win over the Blue Jays.

Eight of the 10 runs scored by the Cubs were unearned, thanks in large part to six errors committed by the Blue Jays.

Kohen Hugo stroked three singles and scored two runs to lead the Cubs at the plate, while Tristan Campbell doubled and scored two runs, and Matthias Welles, Eric Lewis, and Eli Tenny each singled and scored one run.

Cooper Hugo added a single in the win, while Logan Roskow scored two runs, and Eric Schrader III crossed the plate once.

Kohen Hugo started on the mound for the Cubs, allowing one run on two hits, while striking ou five and walking one.

Welles earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on one hit in 2 2/3 innings. He fanned seven and walked two.

Cooper Robinson doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Lucas Pradun singled twice and scored two runs in the Blue Jays' six-hit attack.

Alex McQuay doubled and had three RBI for the Blue Jays, while Karson Sipley added a singled, and Charan Venkataswamy and Derek Johnson each scored one run.

Robinson was tagged with the loss. He allowed two earned runs on six hits, with three strikeouts and two walks in 3 1/3 innings of work. McQuay allowed two hits and struck out one in 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Pirates 14, Angels 1
Connor Davidson and Brendan Cooke combined on a four-inning no-hitter to lead the Pirates to a 14-1 win over the Angels.

Davidson fanned seven and walked three, while allowing one unearned run in three innings to earn the win. Cooke walked one and struck out one in one inning of relief.

Bryce Laforest stroked four singles, scored four runs, and drove in one run, while Aiden Doherty homered and doubled, scored three runs, and had five RBI, and Davidson doubled and singled, scored three runs, and knocked in one run to lead the Pirates at the plate.

Cooke doubled and scored two runs in the win, while Peyton Robinson scored one run and drove in one run, and Andrew Larrabee crossed the plate once.

Logan Roskow scored the lone run for the Angels.

Up next: Angels vs. Blue Jays, 6 p.m. Friday.

Playoffs: Fifth-seed Angels vs. Fourth-seed Blue Jays or Pirates, Saturday at 1 p.m. Winner faces top-seed Cubs Monday at 6 p.m.
