Valley Sports ReportATHENS "” Athens bounced back from a season-opening loss at Canton Tuesday, with a 3-0 sweep of Cowanesque Valley here Thursday night in NTL volleyball action.
"It's a nice win after a tough loss," said Athens coach Heather Hanson.
"I challenged the team to no more than three missed serves and they accomplished that - we had exactly three missed serves the entire match," she noted.
"We had much better focus tonight," continued Hanson. "We had a chance to run some quicker offense and Taylor Field had an outstanding night controlling the ball.
"Leah Liechty, Ally Martin, and Kylie Jayne were dominant up front, and even setter Kayleigh Miller got some big kills tonight," she added. "Jenny Ryan had some nice hits and assists, and was nice and loud. The whole team contributed tonight."
Due to Covid-19 restrictions on fans, Athens parents and fans braved a light rain and watched a live stream of the match on a "screen" outside the Athens gym.
"We can't thank enough all the fans who sat outside the gym and watched the live stream, and peaked in through the doors," said Hanson.

Athens, now 1-1, returns to action Tuesday at Sayre.
