Valley Sports Report
ATHENS "” Athens shook off a slow start, and overcame an early North Penn-Mansfield score en route to a 4-1 win here Saturday morning in NTL girls soccer action.

"We started out a little sluggish and got scored on early," said Athens coach Rich Pitts. "We came right back and scored a nice goal and then figured it out to take a 3-1 lead.

"We had a ton of chances in the second half that we either didn't hit well or the goal keeper made a great save on," noted Pitts.

Jaclyn Nelson put North Penn-Mansfield on the board early for a 1-0 lead, but freshman Mya Thompson scored her first varsity goal just a few minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.

Senior Emma Roe scored twice in the first half to give the Lady Wildcats a 3-1 lead. Freshman Amber Galvin was credited with her second varsity assist on Roe's second goal.

Freshman Norah Reid scored her first varsity goal in the second half to provide the final margin.

Sophomore Ally Thoman was credited with assists on Athens' first and final goals of the game.

Athens had a 29-5 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Athens, now 2-0-1, returns to action Wednesday at Troy at 4 p.m., then hosts NEB Thursday, and travels to Wyalusing Saturday.

"Overall, I'm pleased with our effort, and I look forward to next week's games," said Pitts.
