NTL GIRLS SOCCER: WILLIAMSON EDGES SAYRE, 3-2, IN OVERTIME (20 PHOTOS) (2020-09-19)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE "” Chelsea Hungerford scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift Williamson to a, 3-2, come-from-behind win over Sayre here Saturday afternoon in NTL girls soccer action.

Hungerford's overtime goal, just 60 seconds into the extra period, was assisted by Kyra Daley off a flip throw.

"It was a hard-fought loss," said Sayre coach Tracy Mennig. "I think we kept possession most of the game.

"We had a rough time defending flip throw, which they scored on again in overtime," she noted.

"We are improving every game, so I am happy with that," added Mennig.

Daley gave the Lady Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, but Sayre countered with a pair of goals in the final minutes before intermission.

Senior Courtney Sindoni started the Lady Redskins' march to their first goal with a throw-in to freshman Caprice Haney, who dibbled into open space, and found freshman Kendra Merrill. She one-touched Haney's pass into the net with 3 minutes remaining to tie the game at 1-1.

Two minutes later, junior Alyssa Seddon found Merrill, and she did the rest, blowing by a pair of defenders and depositing a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-1. It was Sedan's first varsity assist.

The Lady Redskins maintained the lead until the 78th minute when Hungerford tied the game with her first goal.

Williamson outshot Sayre, 19-14, while the Lady Redskins had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

Adrianna Barnhart recorded seven saves in net for Sayre.

"I wish our seniors had a win on their day, but did the best they could," said Mennig, noting the seniors had been honored prior to the game.

"I just hope we can have a postseason, where we can peak," she added. "But, I keep telling the girls to play like its your last game."

Sayre, now 1-2, returns to action Monday when it hosts Sullivan County.
