THE VALLEY - Most of Tuesday's action is on the road, including the Athens boys at Wellsboro in the marquee soccer match of the day, but the Sayre volleyball team will finally open its season at home tonight against crosstown rival Athens.

BOYS SOCCER
Sayre (1-2) at NP-Liberty, 4 p.m.:
The Redskins are coming off a wild, 9-6, loss at Sullivan County Saturday afternoon.

Last year, NP-L beat Sayre, 9-1, at home, and, 6-2, at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

Athens (2-0) at Wellsboro (2-0), 5:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 2-0 win over Sayre Thursday, while the Green Hornets clobbered Towanda, 12-1, Saturday.

The game appears to be a contrast in styles as Athens has pitched a pair of shutouts, while Wellsboro has scored 24 goals in its two games. (Athens opened the season with a 2-0 win over Troy, while Wellsboro thumped NEB, 12-2.)

Last year, Athens won, 3-1, at home, and, 2-1, at Wellsboro.

VOLLEYBALL
Athens (1-1) at Sayre (0-0), 6 p.m. JV start:
The Lady Wildcats are coming off a sweep of Cowanesque Valley Thursday, while the Lady Redskins have yet to take to the court in live action.

Sayre's scheduled season-opener Monday at Canton was postponed due to Canton's team being quarantined for two weeks following a positive test for Covid-19.

Last year, Athens won, 3-0, at Sayre, and, 3-1, at home.

CROSS COUNTRY
Mansfield, Towanda at Sayre, 4:30 p.m.:
The under-manned Redskin teams will host Mansfield and Towanda.

Athens, Canton at Troy, 4:30 p.m.: Both Athens teams notched wins over Towanda last Tuesday, and look to keep their early-season roll going at Troy.
