Valley Sports Report
The Bradford / Sullivan Counties Long Distance Running / Walking team competed in the first-ever virtual edition of the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Central Fall Sectional this weekend earning a large number of medals.

Prior to COVID-19, this competition would be hosted by Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa.  For the virtual event, qualifying times were submitted to separate the athletes into divisions based upon their performance, gender, and age for their section of the state.  Competition times were then recorded by each county team and submitted to Special Olympics Pennsylvania.  The athletes' competition times were compared to others in their division for central Pennsylvania and each athlete was awarded the corresponding medal or ribbon.

In the 1,500-meter run, Izaak Hobday, Damian Smith, and Jeffrey Bailey won gold medals.  Calvin Briggs and Anne Roof earned silver medals, and Christina Cybulak and Elizabeth Porter brought home bronze medals.

In the 1,500-meter walk, Randy Fortune, Jennifer DeFelice, Robert Cummings, Adam Myers, and Evan Haggarty won gold medals in their respective divisions.  Barbara Campbell captured a silver medal, and  John Lantz claimed a bronze medal.

The 3,000-meter run featured Jeff Bailey and Calvin Briggs winning gold medals, and Anne Roof battling to take the silver.

In the 3,000-meter walk, Randy Fortune and Adam Myers clinched gold, while Robert Cummings added to the Bradford / Sullivan riches with a silver.

In the 5,000-meter run, Izaak Hobday, Damian Smith and Elizabeth Porter each collected gold medals.

The Bradford / Sullivan Counties Special Olympics Pennsylvania Long Distance Running / Walking team looks forward to a virtual state level Fall Fest, usually held at Villanova University.
