ATHENS - Sayre earned its first win of the season, topping Northeast Bradford, 18-15, and also dropped a 60-12 decision to crosstown rival Athens here Thursday night in NTL wrestling action.

Sayre 18, NEB 15
The Redskins picked up three forfeits, and topped Northeast Bradford, 18-15.

Kendrick Ross, at 106 pounds, Bobby Benjamin (145), and Aiden Reid (172) had their hands raised for the Redskins.

In the first weight class to make it to the mat, NEB'S Jack Shumway scored a takedown in overtime to pick up a 14-12 decision over Sayre freshman Kaden Bennett at 160 pounds.

Bennett led the bout 4-1 after a pair of takedowns in the first period, and scored two more takedowns in the second period as he extended his lead to 10-5.

Shumway scored a pair of takedowns in the third period, and added three near-fall points after his second takedown to tie the bout at 12-12, and force the extra session.

NEB's Kenric Ricci pinned Glen Romberger in 1:01 in NEB's other win at 215 pounds.

NEB's Kamden Ricci was awarded a forfeit at 285 pounds.

Athens 60, Sayre 12

The Redskins earned one win on the mat, and the Wildcats picked up eight forfeits in a 60-12 win.

Athens junior Kaden Setzer opened the match with a pin of Sayre senior Bobby Benjamin in 1:32 at 138 pounds.

Forfeits to Lucas Forbes (145) and Chris Bathgate (152) made it 18-0, and Athens junior Karter Rude decked Sayre's Kaden Bennett in 13 seconds at 160 pounds to extend the Wildcat lead to 24-0.

Senior Zach Stafursky gave Athens a 30-0 lead with a pin of Sayre's Aiden Reid in 2:32 at 172 pounds.

The Redskins got on the board at 189 pounds when sophomore Glen Romberger pinned Athens junior Collin Rosh in 3:38.

After neither team sent a wrestler to the mat for the 215-pound bout, Athens freshman Josh Nittinger picked up a forfeit at 285, and Sayre freshman Kendrick Ross had his hand raised at 106 pounds.

Josh Courtney, at 113 pounds), Gavin Bradley (120), Mason Vanderpool (126), and Jake Courtney (132) received forfeits for the Wildcats to close out the match.

Sayre returns to action Saturday at the Jarvis Tournament in Athens.
