COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD COURTNEY SCORES FALL IN VIRGINIA'S 42-3 WIN OVER DUKE (2021-02-06)

CHARLOTTESVILLE - Athens grad Brian Courtney, a redshirt junior on the University of Virginia wrestling team, locked in a cradle and scored a first-period fall to help the Cavaliers to a 42-3 win over Duke here Friday night in Atlantic Coast Conference wrestling action.

Courtney, ranked 16th in the nation at 141 pounds, scored a takedown with a standing cradle about 65 seconds into his bout with Duke's Patrick Rowland for a 2-0 lead.

About 45 seconds later, Courtney was able to lock in another cradle, then after a bit of maneuvering scored the fall at 2:02 to put Virginia ahead 15-0.

Courtney is now 7-1 on the season, including 3-1 in ACC duals. He has three pin falls, and two technical falls this season.

Virginia, 3-2 overall, and 2-2 in ACC duals, wraps up the regular season Saturday at North Carolina.
