NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS AVENGES LOSS WITH 47-27 WIN OVER WYALUSING (24 PHOTOS) (2021-02-23)

ATHENS "” Senior Kayleigh Miller and junior Caydence Macik scored 17 points apiece as avenged an early-season loss with a 47-27 win over Wyalusing here Tuesday night in NTL girls basketball action.

Just 19 days ago, the Lady Wildcats dropped a 31-28 decision at Wyalusing.

"We executed offensively much better tonight than we did the first time around, setting screens to get our offense some nice, open looks," said Athens girls coach Brian Miller. "I'm proud of the girls, and the way they played collectively as a team."

Senior Megan Collins knocked down a 3-pointer in the first quarter to help Athens to a 9-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Macik scored seven points in the second quarter, and Miller knocked down a 3-pointer as the Lady Wildcats stretched its lead to 10 points, 23-13, at the half.

Miller scored seven points in the third quarter, and Macik added an old-fashioned three-point play as Athens continued to pull away, extending its lead to 16, at 37-21, entering the final eight minutes.

Miller and Macik combined for all 10 of Athens' fourth-quarter points to salt the game away.

Senior Hannah Blackman and sophomore Karlee Bartlow scored four points apiece for the Lady Wildcats in the win.

"Hannah Blackman stepped up at both ends of the floor for us tonight," said Miller.

Olivia Leichliter led Wyalusing with 12 points, and Catherine Brown added five.

Athens, now 14-5, hosts Towanda Wednesday night.
