IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY OVERCOMES TIOGA'S FAST START IN 58-37 WIN (2021-02-26)
Valley Sports Report TIOGA CENTER "” Tioga got off to a fast start, but couldn't maintain it in a 58-37 loss to Newark Valley here Thursday night in IAC junior varsity boys basketball action.
Bryce Bailey knocked down a pair of 3-pointers on his way to eight points in the first quarter, and Valentino Rossi added four points for the junior Tigers, but NV's Will Craparo canned a pair of 3-pointers and five of his teammates found the scoring column in a high-scoring stanza that ended with Tioga up 16-15.
Craparo hit two more 3-pointers in the second quarter and the junior Cardinals pulled ahead 25-22 at the half.
Daniel Truesdail and Daniel Pirger combined for 15 points in the third quarter to fuel a 17-8 run that gave Newark Valley a 42-30 lead entering the final eight minutes.
Pirger and Craparo each knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the fourth quarter, and Truesdail added four as the Cardinals added nine points to its lead.
Bailey led Tioga with 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Rossi scored eight points, Ethan Landmesser add seven points, and Karson Sindoni and Gavin Fisher chipped in with four points apiece.
Craparo led NV with five 3-pointers and 17 points, while Pirger scored 15, Truesdail had 14 and Gavin Mann chipped in with four.
The two teams square off again Saturday at Newark Valley.
