NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS CLOSES REGULAR SEASON WITH 44-12 ROUT OF CANTON (10 PHOTOS) (2021-02-26)

ATHENS "” Athens limited Canton to one field goal in the first half, and raced out to a 28-point halftime lead en route to a 44-12 win here Friday night in NTL girls basketball action.

Junior Caydence Macik scored 11 points in the first quarter, and senior Kayleigh Miller added five as the Lady Wildcats raced out to a 16-2 lead, with Carolyn Thoren scoring Canton's only bucket.

Miller tossed in seven points, including a 3-pointer in the second quarter, and Macik added four points to fuel a 15-1 blitz that upped the Athens lead to 31-3 at the halftime intermission.

Aislynn Williams knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for Canton in a low-scoring second half that saw Athens outscore the Lady Warriors, 13-9.

Macik led Athens with 19 points, five boards, and four assists, and Miller had 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, and one blocked shot.

Sophomore Karlee Bartlow and freshman Mya Thompson each grabbed four boards for Athens, and sophomore Emma Bronson had three steals.

Williams led Canton with six points, and Thoren and Emmie Tymeson added two points apiece.

Athens finished the 2021 campaign with a 16-6, and now awaits word on its seed and opening-round opponent in the upcoming District 4, Class AAAA playoffs.
