Valley Sports Report
ENDWELL "” Marathon cracked Tioga's defense once, but that was enough for a 1-0 season-opening win in Section IV field hockey action here Wednesday night at Maine-Endwell High School.

"We held our own today, and left the turf proud," said Tioga coach Jodi Riggs. "But, we still have a long to-do list."

Marathon's Brie Carter scored the game's lone goal with 8:56 remaining in the first half.

Marathon had a 9-5 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Aubrey NIchols recorded eight saves in net for Tioga, while Kassidy Vanorder had five saves for Marathon.

Tioga returns to action Saturday against SVEC at Owego High School. Game time is 2 p.m.
