NTL SOFTBALL: WYALUSING ROLLS OVER SAYRE, 24-0, IN 2021 DEBUT (7 PHOTOS) (2021-04-09)
Valley Sports ReportSAYRE - They may have been the area's last softball team to make their debut, but the Lady Rams certainly made an entrance into the 2021 season with a 24-0 three-inning win over Sayre in NTL action Friday.
Wyalusing pounded out 20 hits in the contest, while in the circle, senior hurler Hailey Jayne allowed just one hit to get the win with six strikeouts. She faced just nine batters the entire game.
At the plate, London Edwards (3-for-3) had a run scored and two RBI and Jennelle Johns (2-for-4) had a home run, with three RBI, and two runs scored.
Jayne (2-for-4) had two doubles to go with three runs and five RBI, while Danella Cornell (2-for-2) had three RBI with a run scored. Imogen Herbert (2-for-4) and Kenlie Mignon (2-for-2) also had multiple hits in the game. Herbert had two RBI, and both crossed home.
Laci Norton (1-for-4) and Callie Bennett (1-for-3) scored three runs apiece, Sydney Friedlander (1-for-3) knocked in a run, Chloe Tewksbury (1-for-1) scored a run, Molly Radney (1-for-1) had a double with a run scored, Dakota Hugo (1-for-2) scored twice, and Haley McGroarty (1-for-2) also scored. Pearl O'Connor crossed home as well.
Hailey McCaig had the lone Sayre hit.
Norton and Bennett both reached to lead off the first inning. Norton would score on a fielder's choice, but it looked like Bennett would be stranded until Friedlander had a two-out hit to bring her in.
Friedlander, Edwards and Hugo then all scored on singles to make it 5-0 Rams.
The second inning is when Wyalusing did most of its damage, batting around twice to score 15 runs in the inning. In the third, the Rams added four more runs to get the mercy-rule win.
Sayre returns to action Monday when it hosts Williamson.
